Oak Park Gobble Gobble Gallup 5K

A nice flat course through Shepherd Park. A decent 5K route, three loops around the park and ice rink. Given that it's also a 5K walk, you never run out of people to pass.

Temp: 42 degrees F
Time: 8:30 AM

Finish: 18:29 (2nd overall) 5:56 per mile pace.

I decided to go out at a comfortable pace, not overextending my ability. I'm not quite sure what the splits were, but I'm comfortable saying that my first mile was the slowest, and the last was the fastest mile. Definitely an improvement over last year's 21:00 finish.

Rochester Bloomer Park 5K

Location: Rochester's Bloomer Park.

Course: Bloomer Park, known for hills was definitely a challenge, even though it was only 5K.

Temp: 40 degrees F
Time: 8:30AM

Finish: 19:21 (2nd Overall)

The first mile is nice, half is downhill, then you have a 90 degree turn, and another to return back up the same hill. In perspective of the rest of the course, that first hill starts to look like it's all flat. The best part of this race was knowing that I was only .1 miles from the winner, and had been sick just 2 days beforehand. With more consistent training, and better health, it would have been an interesting finish.
